A crowded heart, like weeds, chokes the growth of a healthy crop.
A piece of good news:
Porto Opened Metro Stations to Help Homeless
During a recent cold spell with temperatures below 3ºC, Porto City Council opened two metro stations and an emergency shelter to provide warmth and safety for the homeless. Blankets, hot drinks, and meals were distributed, with support teams assisting with social services and transportation.
Thank you for reading this second issue of HopeMail for 2025. I had planned to write about a different topic. However, as my scheduled writing day arrived, a sudden phone call required our urgent shifting of plans, attention, priorities. As I began drafting, my original topic no longer felt aligned with where I was at that moment. Instead, the phrase “Make space” came into my mind, so I wrote a simple poem about it.
About the featured painting
This idea came to me as I reflected on 1Mark 4:39 from the Bible: “And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, 'Peace! Be still!' And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”
In contrast to the raging storm and the disciples' fear, I was inspired to paint not the storm, but the absolute stillness and calm that followed Jesus’ sovereignty. This painting remains one of my favourites—a quiet reminder I return to often.
